SNAP Emergency Allotment is Ending

Since April 2020, all Illinois SNAP households received their regular monthly benefit and an Emergency Allotment to help manage food insecurity. Due to a recent federal policy change, SNAP Emergency Allotments are ending February 28, 2023.

The income limits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) vary by state and are adjusted annually to reflect cost of living changes. In fiscal year 2024, the government implemented a 12.5% increase in SNAP benefits, which in turn affected the income eligibility standards.

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) offers a Crisis Assistance Program for families who have an immediate need for food, shelter or clothing. The Crisis Assistance Program in Cook County includes shelter for individuals and families.

What is the monthly income limit for food stamps in Illinois? ›

Effective April 2024 – March 2025, the Medically Needy Income Limit (MNIL) in IL is $1,255 / month for an individual and $1,703 / month for a couple. The “spenddown” amount is the difference between one's monthly income and the MNIL.

Please allow seven (7) days for mail delivery.
